Healthy Neighborhoods Program

The Schenectady County Healthy Neighborhoods Program is designed to reduce housing-related illness and injury. This voluntary program is funded by the New York State Department of Health and is completely free to residents. It is a home visit based program conducted by public health nurses and targets residences located in the 12303, 12304, 12307, and 12308 zip codes. During the home visit, public health nurses conduct a health and safety assessment and provide health and safety education to families and individuals. Following visits, referrals to other agencies and organizations can be made with tenant permission.

Areas of emphasis include but are not limited to:

  • Fire safety
  • Lead poisoning prevention
  • Pests
  • Asthma
  • Tobacco Control
  • Falls Prevention
  • Child Safety
