From the Department Manager: Laurie Bacheldor
It is our mission to serve seniors age 60 and older, caregivers and community based long-term care consumers. For our seniors and caregivers, we seek to help individuals to remain as independent for as long as possible through the delivery of high quality, person-centered, and cost-effective programs and services. We provide long-term care services and supports, including the Expanded In-home Services for the Elderly Program (EISEP), which provides home care and case management assistance to non-Medicaid consumers. Our other aging services include nutrition counseling and education, home delivered meals and Friendship Café meals (formally known as congregate meal sites), health insurance information and counseling, legal supports, social adult day services, meal site and medical transportation assistance, social and recreational supports (including bus trips) and more. Many of these services are subcontracted to Catholic Charities Senior & Caregiver Support Services, Cornell Cooperative Extension –Schenectady County, and others.
Our efforts to address the challenges of today’s seniors are rooted in an understanding principle that promotes the independence of seniors and caregivers. We try to do so by serving them where they want to be served and where it is most cost-effective (i.e., in their home and community). The department takes our mission seriously and we work at the community, county, state and federal levels to ensure that the voices of our consumers and their families are integral to our service delivery.
As the Manager for the department, please feel free to reach out to me or anyone in our department should you need assistance.
