A RESOLUTION HONORING SCOTT BRIGGS FOR HIS HEROIC SUCCESS IN RESCUING A WOMAN FROM A BURNING HOUSE

WHEREAS,  Scott Briggs, a professional fire fighter with Niskayuna Fire district # 1, became aware that shortly  after 5:00 a.m. on Monday, October 23, 2006  the building next to his Ballston Avenue home in Scotia was engulfed in flames; and

WHEREAS, without regard to his own safety, Scott Briggs rushed into the burning building when he learned that there was an elderly woman who was still in the building; and

WHEREAS, Scott Briggs was able to find and wake the sleeping woman who was unaware of the dire danger she was in and escort her to safety; and

WHEREAS, Scotia Fire Chief, Richard Kasko, said that if it were not for the heroics of Scott Briggs, “the outcome for the woman could have been very different”; now therefore be it

RESOLVED, that the Schenectady County Legislature expresses its appreciation and gratitude to Scott Briggs for the bravery and quick action he demonstrated which resulted in the saving of a life; and be it further

RESOLVED, that the Schenectady County Legislature wishes to acknowledge its gratitude to Scott Briggs and all the emergency responders in Schenectady County who on a daily basis put their own lives on the line to serve and protect the citizens in our communities.
